Our meat processing facilities - for unbeatable quality and freshness
Whether it's juicy beef for a stew, fresh chicken or a hearty pork schnitzel, a varied range of meat products awaits our customers. At REWE International AG, over 1,800 highly trained employees ensure quality and freshness in the meat segment - from skilled butchers and our own apprentices to the professionals in the delicatessen departments.
Top quality fresh and cured meat products
REWE Austria Fleischwaren GmbH has three in-house large-scale butcheries where fresh meat is jointed, cut and packaged on site.. These butcheries provide branches of our trading companies BILLA, MERKUR and ADEG with around 400 fresh meat products. Furthermore, they also supply the raw materials for the production of our 150 to 200 cured meat products to our two cured meat operations in Hohenems (Vorarlberg) and Radstadt (Salzburg). From here, the sausages/cured meats are stored in seven cold storage warehouses before being transported to the stores.
State-of-the-art new location in Upper Austria
In 2019, another state-of-the-art meat processing site in Eberstalzell, Upper Austria will be added to the three existing sites. Over a surface area of 35,500 square metres, a new jointing operation with ultra-modern production lines will be set up. In the future, around 200 employees will joint 20,000 tonnes of fresh meat per year for our trading companies' store brands. In terms of sustainability, the "nose to tail" principle will be applied, meaning that all parts of the animal will be processed.
